The most common reason why both men and women travel to a laser hair removal clinic is simply to remove or reduce unwanted body hair.
A laser hair removal course is a minimally invasive treatment, with little downtime, a proven track record and is versatile enough to be used pretty much anywhere on the body.
However, whilst for many people the main reason they take the treatment is for preference, there are some more unusual reasons why laser hair removal becomes a necessity and is convenient for them in a way that waxing and creams often are not.
Athletes
One of the most interesting professions where body hair is something that can actively detract from performance is various athletic disciplines, particularly swimming, diving and cycling.
The reason for this is aerodynamics; in a wind tunnel experiment featuring several triathletes and other competitive cyclists, removing body hair could reduce drag to such a degree that it could shave (pardon the pun) over a minute off of a 40-kilometre time trial.
It is also essential for swimmers for similar hydrodynamic reasons after full-body suits were banned, and also for divers to ensure their entry into the water remains consistent.
Typically this is done with regular shaving, but for athletes sick of razor burn, regular laser hair removal treatments can save a lot of time, effort and pain.
Bodybuilders
Competitive bodybuilders are almost always completely shaved from head to toe, and the simple reason for this is that it is all but required to win a bodybuilding contest.
The more complex reason is that as a sport based on aesthetics, judges are ranking bodybuilders based on their muscle definition, symmetry and conditioning, which can sometimes be hard to see if there is a substantial amount of body hair in the way.
