If you have been considering a cosmetic skin treatment to lessen the signs of ageing, then you might be curious to know more about an injectable skin booster therapy called Bio-revitalisation. It is one of a variety of anti wrinkle injections available at our Birmingham clinic, and perhaps less well-known than Botox or fillers.
Here’s a look at what the treatment involves, and why it’s effective for slowing down the ageing process, as well as addressing issues such as hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.
What is Bio-revitalisation?
Bio-revitalisation is a skin rejuvenation treatment that works by injecting small doses of a highly effective gel composed of hyaluronic acids and amino acids into the skin. This combination delivers intense nourishment to fibroblasts, which are the cells responsible for collagen and elastin production.
These are the building block proteins that support the skin and help it to repair damage quickly and remain supple and soft. As we get older, the rate at which the body produces collagen and elastin slows down, and so the skin is more susceptible to dry patches, wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. It also takes longer to heal from damage.
Bio-revitalisation delivers deep hydration at a cellular level in order to improve the elasticity of the skin and speed up renewal and repair. This results in radiant skin that is smoother, softer, more even-toned and firmer. It can also provide a subtle lift and volume to areas such as the cheekbones and cheeks.
The treatment can be applied to the face, décolletage, neck, hands, tummy, knees and thighs. The effects will last for about six months, and the improvement of the skin will increase over time. It’s suitable for most skin types, and is particularly beneficial for mature, very dry or damaged skin.
Why is Bio-revitalisation therapy gaining popularity?
Convenient and non-invasive
Bio-revitalisation therapy is a fast and non-invasive treatment that involves minimal downtime and discomfort. It is delivered via injections with fine needles that some people find mildly uncomfortable, but this can be minimised with a numbing cream applied prior to the treatment.
Most people tolerate the treatment very well and do not experience any significant side effects. As with any injectable cosmetic skin procedure, it’s normal to expect short-lived side effects including minor skin irritation, itchiness, swelling or bruising in the treated area. These should subside within a few days.
Deep hydration for more youthful-looking skin
The high concentration of hyaluronic acid replenishes moisture in the skin, as this is a substance that is naturally produced by the body to help bind water molecules to the skin and prevent it from drying out. High levels of hyaluronic acid help the skin to look plumper and more youthful.
Collagen stimulation to soften lines and wrinkles
The treatment promotes greater production of collagen by feeding fibroblasts with essential amino acids. This results in firmer and more supple skin, and improves the overall texture and smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles.
Treating acne scars and hyperpigmentation
Beyond its anti-ageing benefits, the treatment can help to repair skin that has been damaged by acne scarring and pigmentation. It stimulates collagen production and promotes faster skin cell turnover, which helps to repair damaged skin and soften the appearance of scarring and discoloured patches over time.
The intense hydration also helps to promote healing and reduce further irritation and inflammation of the skin.
Getting the most from your treatment
In order to get the most value from your treatment, it’s important to follow the aftercare instructions carefully. These include staying out of the sun for one week; avoiding swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas for 72 hours, and any other activities that could cause excessive heat and sweating, such as intensive exercise sessions.
In addition to the above, clients are advised not to use makeup or powder for 24 hours after the treatment, avoid alcohol and drink plenty of fluids. This will help the gel formula work more effectively as when we are well hydrated, nutrients will be delivered more efficiently to the body’s skin cells.
The treatment is not advised for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an autoimmune disease; or have current or historic skin infections.
