How Mesotherapy Treatment Addresses Common Skin Concerns

Beauty may be skin-deep, but if your complexion is showing signs of ageing, sun damage or hyperpigmentation, you will know that this can knock your confidence. There are many products on the market that claim to give you clearer and more youthful looking skin, but it can be difficult to know which ones might actually make a difference.

At our cosmetic skin clinic in Slough, we provide mesotherapy, an advanced type of skincare that involves multiple microinjections of vitamins, enzymes, amino acids and powerful antioxidants. Adapted for cosmetic use from its original medical purpose as a pain reliever, mesotherapy is now a popular and effective skin rejuvenation treatment.

Benefits of mesotherapy

Reducing photoageing and hyperpigmentation

Photoageing is the cumulative damage to your skin that is the result of exposure to sunlight and UV light over time. This can result in wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation (darker patches on the skin), making the complexion look prematurely aged.

It can also damage other areas of your skin that are frequently exposed to sunlight, such as the back of the hands, the decolletage, and the arms. Mesotherapy treatment can lighten pigmented areas, even out the skin tone and protect the skin against future damage. This will result in smoother and younger looking skin that will help you to feel more confident.

Under-eye rejuvenation

Our eyes are naturally the focal point of our face, and we use them to communicate and express ourselves. However, the skin around our eyes is particularly delicate and sensitive, and it is often the first area to show signs of wear and tear.

If the post-Christmas season has left you with puffiness, under-eye bags, dark circles, and deeper lines, then mesotherapy can help. The special formula can reduce swelling, lighten dark circles, and minimise the appearance of fine lines. This will leave you looking brighter and more refreshed, and contribute to a more youthful appearance.

Promoting skin healing and overall appearance

Time takes its toll on the skin, because as we age our bodies naturally produce less collagen and elastin, the substances that keep the skin supple and soft. Older skin is prone to wrinkles, dry patches, sagging around the jawline, and takes longer to heal from damage such as stretch marks or acne scars.

Mesotherapy accelerates the skin’s natural healing process, promoting faster tissue repair and renewal. This can help to reduce the appearance of lines, stretch marks, and scars, and improve the overall tone, texture and general health of the skin. The treatment will also make your skin look firmer and feel smoother and better hydrated.

What to expect from your first treatment

Before you have your first treatment, your therapist will carry out an initial consultation to assess your skin and discuss your expectations and preferences. This will help the therapist to tailor the mesotherapy formula so it specifically targets your particular concerns and skin type.

The therapist may also ask a few questions about your medical history and general state of health to make sure that you are a suitable candidate for the treatment, and will possibly carry out a patch test in an unobtrusive area.

Most people report that the treatment is pain-free or has a mild level of discomfort. However, if you prefer, a local anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to the treatment to make it more comfortable. After the treatment, you may notice minor swelling, redness or bruising, but this will usually resolve itself within a few days.

After the treatment, you should notice improvements to your skin within a few days. However, a course of three to six treatments is recommended for the best results. When your skin has achieved the desired condition, you can top up the treatment with refresher sessions two to three times a year.

Aftercare for best results

Directly after your treatment, your therapist will advise you on certain precautions to avoid damaging your skin and ensure that the mesotherapy has maximum impact. This will include avoiding sun exposure, hot baths and intensive exercise for 48 hours after the session, and avoiding showers and touching the skin or wearing makeup for eight to 12 hours afterwards.

When you do expose your skin to sunlight, always wear protective items such as hats and sunglasses, and wear a high factor SPF.
