If you’re interested in cryotherapy (also known as fat freezing), here are a few of the more frequently asked questions that we get here at Sky Clinic. And, of course, if you need any further help or advice, just get in touch with the team today.

What does fat freezing involve?

Fat freezing is a form of localised fat reduction that’s achieved through the use of advanced cooling technology that kills fat cells without affecting the surrounding muscle and tissue.

The treatment itself is carried out using a device that’s attached to your body using suction, with the target areas then cooled to safe temperatures to crystallise the fat cells.

Are there any side-effects to fat freezing?

Cryolipolysis is a non-surgical treatment, so there are few side-effects to worry about. You may experience redness and swelling at the treatment sites, as well as stinging and tingling, bruising, skin discolouration, numbness and sensitivity, but these should all resolve themselves relatively quickly.

How many fat freezing sessions will I need?

Depending on your specific circumstances, you may only need to have one treatment session but other people may find that they have to book several sessions to see the desired results. This will all be discussed when you come to see us for your consultation, however.

Which parts of the body respond well to fat freezing?

Fat freezing can be used extensively across the body, focusing on those stubborn areas of fat that don’t seem to disappear, no matter how much exercise you get or how good your diet is. You can target your upper arms, chin, inner and outer thighs, your hips and abdomen, both your upper and lower back, and beneath your buttocks.

Does fat freezing hurt?

You’ll be pleased to hear that fat freezing treatments are not painful and, in fact, you may find the session actually quite relaxing. You may feel the suction device pulling on your skin a little but this shouldn’t be uncomfortable. If you do find yourself experiencing any discomfort at all, make sure you tell your clinician immediately.
